Challenger Fenders 14" vs 15"
« on: November 15, 2013 - 12:41:14 PM »
I am new to cc so I hope I am posting in the right spot. I am in the process of restoring my TA and noticed the lips on the front fenders are different between  the driver and passenger sides. I know the passenger side had been replaced when I got the car. I believe the passenger side is a 14” fender and the driver side may be the original 15”. I am not sure how to tell as the driver fender looks as it has had some extra help by a previous owner to gain even more tire clearance. Are there any pictures out there showing the difference?

Thanks in Advance,

There weren't different fenders for different size tires. Maybe a previous owner mod?

In what way are they different?  Like was said before, there was no factory difference. The only mod I have seen for larger tires is to roll the inner fender lip.

TA and Hemi Fenders are different from the rest of the Challenger Line.  I know it has something to do with the lip but it has been a long time since I've seen the difference.

I had a 70 with two different fender lines (port and stbd) and according to the original owner they were never swapped.  He said he never noticed either..  lol  Said they were rolling off the assembly line inconsistant post Chrysler walkout/strike and they were slapping them together to get the backlog out so anything is possible.   He said the car had so many issues and made countless trips to the dealer to address them.

They were like this photo....  I drew in the body lines to reflect the differences between the two I had...
Anybody relate to this?

I hope this worked. First time with pics.

The area I am referring to is the amount of the lip that is bent and the spot welds on the brace. The fender I know that’s been replaced is the one with the spot welds and the smaller amount of the lip that has been bent up. The one I believe is original to the TA is the one with the bead weld and the larger area bent up.

Somewhere on here there's an old thread about whether there were 2 or 3 fenders available on the Challengers. I can't find it.

I'm looking too. Being new to cc I have a lot of catching up to do. Been spending hours not finding what I'm looking for but getting a bunch of good information on other stuff needed for the project. I do remember from years ago that there was something about the brace being different and the lip was bent up on both sides of the brace on the 15" fender. That's been 30 years ago and I don't remember things as well as I use to.

Do a search T/A Fender NOS? and check out the thread. Here is a picture of a couple of fenders from the front one sticks out further as you can see.

Thanks all for the responses and help. I have located  a thread on this site listed Hemi Fenders and found out some information on the early rolled fenders that were done at Creative Ind., but nothing on the later 15” fenders. The thread has a lot of information on it if you would like to check it out yourself.
I have also been in contact with Barry with the TA registry and he told me he has no records of TA’s with 15” fenders. He said the factory got around needing them on the TA’s by putting on a smaller size 15” tire. So it looks like I may have a fender for sale. I would still like to find out if it is indeed a 15” fender so I could reunite it with a vehicle that needs it. If it is not a 15” fender it looks like I have a beat up fender for sale.
