72 is different. 73 and 74 don't use a plastic seat back.  Which ones do you have?

I believe 74 is the same as 73.

If its just the backside of the seat that's different, would they still work for my 72 if I put the plastic covers on over these?

Early 72's had the hardback cover. Late 72's had a complete seat cover. No I don't think you could just attach
a hardback over the cover. The hinges are totally different as well. But I don't know if that would make a
difference or not.
If I cant fix it, it's broke
