over flow tubes

This is a new one for me, see if you can figure it out and give me some direction. Still having problems finding a breather that will fit cuz I have very little clearance. I bought a new 14X3 in. ball milled aluminum breather assembly. It has a flat top on it. When I put it on the carb the angle cut overflow/vent tubes hit the bottom of the cover, other than that it will work. Can these be cut off a little or not? I just need 1/8 to 1/4 in. I have never had this happen before. I have a 850 DP Holley with choke assembly.

Perhaps add some gaskets between the air filter base and the carb, to raise the air filter,
so the vent tubes won't hit?

I've always been told you need 3/4 to 1" of clearance above the vents so it doesn't siphon ( circle track)

cannot raise the carb because no hood clearance. This has been a real pain getting a breather that will clear and not cause other problems. I am afraid if I lower the breather top too much its going to cause the air to tumble when entering the carb. It appears I might be going to a different intake. I currently run the Weind Team G maniflod. The car runs really really well with that intake but it is a tall intake and causes clearance issues with the hood. I currently have a 14x3 breather. After modifyng it to clear the throttle and cutting about 1/4" of the base I still need another 1/4". My only other option at this point seems to be going to a 2" filter which concerns me about getting enough air or getting another intake.

Anyone that has been following my posts for clearance issues has probably sensed my frustration with trying to get my weind intake and breather under my hood. I purchased a 1.5 in. drop base air breather assembly locally. It is a 14X3in. I still had to modify even that even, as well as shorten the vent tubes on the carb to accommodate. I am within 1/2 in of getting it to fit. What is causing the problem is the strengthening rail in the middle of my fiberglass hood. Its about 1" thick. What are the thoughts on cutting a portion of this rail out or slimming it down for clearance. My only other option are changing intakes, buying a 2" drop base cleaner from Ram Air, which would require cutting down the breather fastening post and I am worried about this creating air flow problems due to the element being so far below the breather base, (experts have said this causes the air to tumble when entering the carb, robbing horse power) So........ would I be alright cutting down the center rail on the hood or is that sound nuts?

I cut out the center rail on my stock metal hood, and it didn't cause any problems.
Find out exactly where the element is hitting the center rail, and remove a little. 

Or cut out a portion of center rail, and bolt/glue in a replacement part that
has a different shape, so as not to hit air cleaner.

some pics of the underside of the hood. The white area on the center rail is causing problems. I really do not want to change intakes or carbs. I also do not plan on making any changes to my set up period for a long time. I was told I would need to remove the hinges (which I did) to accommodate the fiberglass hood. The hood seems plenty strong and tough. Thoughts?????

ya, should not affect strength of hood

If can't tell from top as to what you did, I'd do it.
