Wiper arm

This might be a dumb question but what is the small arm on the drivers side wiper for. The one one my cuda is missing but it doesn't seem to affect how the wiper travels on the windshield. I've also seen them on other makes of cars. I've never driven the cuda in the rain so maybe I'm in for a surprise if it ever happens.

I understand. I took another look at mine and there is I small bolt holding the wiper mount to the arm. It's tight so the wiper can't turn sideways. Must be something the previous owner did. Why would the passenger side be different?

The driver's side is "articulated" so that when the wiper sweeps up the blade becomes parallel to the windshield pillar. By doing that the wiper cleans more of the glass. The passenger side doesn't need the second arm because it doesn't sweep up to a pillar.

The driver's side pivot should have a small protruding stud that the second arm would attach to, maybe it broke off leaving the previous owner to do what he did.

As I read this, I'm guessing he has two passenger type wiper arms (or A or Body arms) which will work, but as stated above, they won't articulate properly on the driver's side and wipe the windshield in the correct fashion.

Thanks guys. I understand now. The small stud is on the pivot and there is a place to connect the small arm on the wiper blade mount.

If you need the correct drivers side arm i have used ones available as well as trico and anco blades

Thanks moparparts. I believe I have the right wiper arm all I'm missing is the small helper arm. I have several sets of wiper arms with the small arm attached that I picked up at swap meets. I might be able to use or alter one of those to fit. Is there a name for that little helper arm? It was really something I was curious about. I want start pulling the rear axle out next week to replace all the bushing on the springs and shackles. I've doing some research on these add a leaf kits and it seems most users on this site are happy with the results. I put a jack under the cuda raised it 1.5 inches measured at the bumper and that's the look I liked. Could be my 40 year old springs have sagged that  much and 1.5 gets me back to stock.
