Hi
i'm Jay and live in Switzerland. I'm in love with E-Bodies since more than 30 years and own one since 1988! It's a '71 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe. This is the red car on the pictures. Though it's looking quite good, there was plenty of rust in the common spots. After a short period, unfortunetly the main bearings in the engine let go.So i had to address this...
Did all the work myself, including the paint job in acrylic lacquer, sanding and buffing. The 383 got replaced by a 440 with a Holley 4-barrel, which gave way to a 6-barrel setup.
Currently the car is fully dismantled, waiting for a complete resto.
Meanwhile a '67 Barracuda 273S provided the driving pleasures. Daily driver is a '04 PT GT.

Hi  Jay great to see the photos  of your ebody  . And good looking A body you have there. Like you and most people  I know who Owen American muscle cars , some one will  always tell me,at a car show  they  wish they had a cuda or challenger . Here in Australia the mopar hobby is very very strong  . I know in your part of the world  there is a lot of  American muscle.  And we can never thank them enough for making  such a beautiful body shape . Jay you have own your car from 1988 wow that's  a long time .  Was it born red  and  with the 383 ?   well done  for doing all the work your self  . P.S you must get a lot of people asking you so many questions about the car. Nice car  from  OZ  :aussie:

thanx for the flowers! I bought the car in red, but lucky as i am, i  found the broadcast sheet in the car. The original colour was GB5 True Blue Metallic. As it's a Gran Coupe it came with the 383 4-bbl standard, TF8 auto tranny with Slap Stick Shifter and Sure Grip diff. Other Specials where a pre-formed velvet roof liner with overhead consolette and leather faced bucket seats. The power windows provided some luxury.
I got the car from a you guy with no clue about cars. The engine had a Holley double pumper carb on it and the Torqueflite kickdown valve was locked at the full position. What a messy ride...  :poopoke:
The double pumper carb gave me about 7 mpg, so i changed it to a vaccum 4-barrel (about  9.5 mpg there after). The tranny was toast, so i rebuilt it myself.  :working:
Hope to get the car running in reasonable time (money issues...)

Were they available with 4bbl carb? I was thinking only 2bbl were available on GC's with 383's

ooops looks like they made 97 383-4bbl (79 w-auto trans) 161 383-2bbl (all w-auto trans)

It is always nice to see another Gran Coupe!!!  Where in Switzerland are you? I was just there in October.  Saw a really nice 1970 R/T SE Challenger in Basel my first day.  What a nice surprise!

You have a great looking car. I really like the Torque Thrust wheels. sweet!  :thumbsup:

Hi Jay your car looks awesome I see you painted the engine bay the body colour it looks a lot better then black . I will have a go at painting my car when the time comes only hope it comes out half as good as yours.
