Where can I find info on my car?

Hi,

Is there any way to get info on my old (1972) car, like from which dealer it was sold and stuff?
Is there any chance of getting info from DMV on previous owner(s)?

Sort of like a Carfax for an old car would be perfect

You can look up the VIN at Hamtramck-historical.com

Other then that, if you don't know any past owners...you're out of luck.  The DMV doesn't give out any info any more.

No luck at the website

I had a feeling that the DMV wouldn't give me any info.
Luckily, in Sweden all records are public so I've got my hands on all documents provided (receipt, title etc) when the previous owner imported it.
So, with that I've got the name of the last person in CA who owned it at least.

We'll see if I manage to find this person

Ok, a fellow swede here on the forum recommended me to send a request to CA DMV so I've just completed form INF 70 - Request for Record Information.

I'll enclose 30 bucks and say a little prayer

Good luck. I was able to track down the original owner of my 74 Challenger and he sent me some cool stuff he found stashed away in a drawer or filing cabinet or someplace.

Here in Ontario you can get a used car package that will outline the past owners but it will only go back so far in years or so many owners, wichever comes first.

My used car package only goes back to the 80's. I had a friend at the Ministry of Transportation run my vin and get me all the info. I contacted the guy but he was a bit of a life screw up and didn't want to talk.
