Heater control light
« on: January 21, 2014 - 08:21:57 PM »
Should there be a light above the heater and defroster controls? My 73 cuda has an opening above the controls where it looks like a light would be but there's nothing there. Thanks for any replies.

My 74 Challenger has one. There is a hole in the bezel at the top and the bulb is above that. The trouble is the bulb doesn't line up with the hole for some reason. Oh, and the bulb is burnt out :pullinghair:

My 70 Cuda has one and its located the same as "blown motor" and fits the same as his. I put a new bulb in mine, but its basically worthless like the rest of the fine engineered dash lights the car has.

They are part of the light pkg. Make sure the green plastic lens inside is in good shape and that the housing is mounted in a correct orientation. I have not had a problem with these shining on the heater controls in any of the E bodies I have ever worked on.

Yep, they came in the light package.  It was an all or nothing deal.  You either got all of the lights in the package or none of them.  The only exception is 70 and maybe 71 cars with the R/T hood.  If those were equipped with the light package, the fender mounted turn signals were deleted. You couldn't see the PS light over the hood bulge.

Thanks guys. The car was missing the fender tag and I don't have a build sheet so I'm guessing it came without the light pkg. there's a fasten seatbelt light on the left side of the dash where the gauges are but no bulb or socket. There's no ash tray light or glove box light. It's amazing the things we don't think twice about on modern cars. My 7 year old grand daughter sat in the car last summer and ask what the window crank handles were.

Yep, wait till she asks why the water in the toilet is blue.  :smilielol:
My son did that to me years ago when he was younger.
Then years later he asked, which pedal is the brake pedal, when I was teaching him how to drive.  :roflsmiley:
Gotta tell these kids everything  As if Google wasn't enough  :bricks1:
