73 cuda Dash light replacment
« on: January 23, 2014 - 12:56:22 AM »
Drove my cuda in the dark for the first time tonight. no lights on the dash.  presume bulbs are old and burned out.

does anyone have instructions (with diagrams) for the procedure to change the dash instrument bulbs?

any help appreciated.

Try turning the dimmer switch back and forth, my lights were out but it was the dimmer, rotated it a smidge and they are back on

I had a similar problem with my 72 Cuda, but it was two-fold.  One the dimmer element was shot so I had to bypass it with a jumper so full on.  Second, the switch panel has a ground bar on it that one of the attaching screws bonds it to the frame; I had a bad ground.

Odds are it's your dimmer switch, but to answer your question: the "dash instrument bulbs" are inside a light bar that's above the gauges. It's held in with 6 screws.

Here's a picture of a 1970 Challenger rallye light bar that I have.

I tried the dimmer switch. the car has an add on tach. the lights in the tach dimmed and got brighter when turning the switch. so thats why I thought it might be the bulbs. I will check it out more today with a volt meter now that I know how to get to the bulbs.

thanks,
