Question on fender installation
« on: January 24, 2014 - 09:51:01 AM »
When I removed my fenders to weld in the US Cartool cowl braces I noticed some type of seam sealer between the fender and the inner fender? What should I use when I reinstall ? I wire wheeled it all off to check for rust and there was none. :2thumbs:
  Thanks Brad

Brad,

I know what you are talking about. I'm wondering if some modern day silicone caulk from a hardware store would work? All it is there for is to keep water from coming up through the seem and into the engine bay.

Couple of options, a seam sealer, strip calk or just a thin foam gasket. the strip calk is easy to use and comes off somewhat easy if you ever need to redo it.

When I took my challenger fenders off in 1980, they had a black tar like ribbon between the mounting surfaces. Back then, I bought the same stuff from a paint and body supply shop.

I would stay away from using foam.  It will hold water and create rust.
