Hi
« on: January 25, 2014 - 07:56:23 PM »
Just wanted to say hi from canada
I missed the chance to buy a 73 cuda a few years ago and have regretted it ever since, hopefully i will get the chance again some day soon.
A quick simple question I cant seem to find an answer to, and having not been around many of these cars, how many seatbelts are in the back seat? I'm guessing two, anyone know if a satallite or road runner has three? And im also guessing a "B" body could be had with a front bench but E body did not? Feel free to poke fun at my lack of knowledge.

Welcome to the site from another Canuck and my 74 Challenger has 2 rear seat belts. I also believe you COULD get an E body with a bench seat, but there's many, more knowledgeable folks here who can give a more definitive answer. Good luck with your quest!  :canada:

Welcome!   Yes a bench set was available in e-body's . I believe they were called buddy seats?  I assume your asking because you have kids?  If so some on here have  geared up shoulder belts in the rear for baby seats even. I'm sure you could add a third seat belt in the rear if you wanted/needed one.

Welcome to the site.  As others have said there are two seat belts in the back.  Maybe you'll get another shot at finding a cuda.

A bench seat is a single unit.
A Buddy seat is actually 2 buckets with a folding padded armrest in between the two buckets in place of a console

I know the E's came with Benches, I have never seen one with a Buddy seat.  B bodies could be had with either option.

Since this thread is sort of safety related, cars with scheduled production dates prior to 1/1/1968 were not required to have shoulder belts (they were optional).  Those built after 1/1/1968 did have a shoulder belt.  In 1974 it switched from a lap belt + shoulder that had to be attached to a single 3 point unit (like modern cars).

In 1969, it was mandated that cars have headrests in the front (whiplash prevention).  I believe the transition was also on Jan 1.  Note headrests were available in earlier years as an option so you can find earlier cars with them.

As the others have said there are 2 sets of seatbelts in the back but as I have 3 kids I was thinking of adding a set.  I wondered if I could just use the existing bolts and just add to it.  In the event of an accident that would put twice as much load on those bolts I guess.  :dunno:

True, but most any car in the 80's-90's that had 3 belts in the back seat piggy backed bolts for the center belts.
If I cant fix it, it's broke
