70 Challenger Fuel Tank will only fill 1/2
« on: March 08, 2014 - 05:16:36 PM »
I can fill the Gas Tank on my 70 Challenger only 1/2 and then the Gas will Splash out of the fill tube.
Where is the proplem with the Tank?
I lift the Car 20" on the right side but this will not help.
I lift the Car 20" in the back and this will not work too.
I wait 10 minutes and I can See the Gas in the Filler Tube all the time.
The Tank look like full but my Fuel Gauge show only 1/2

When the tank is full it's full. The problem is with your sending unit. Mine reads about 3/4 when the tank is full. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in but I think we need to remove the sending unit and bend the arm on the float. It will likely take more than one try to get it right.

Or replace sending unit.  Get on that possible group buy with Dixie.

:iagree:  These tanks don't take but a few minutes to fill.... senders are often the issue.

It's your sending unit. Try bending the arm with the float down some.

The sending unit can be removed by taking off the driver's side rear wheel and turning the sending unit lock ring with a large flat blade screw driver and hammer.

...But of course, don't do this until you have less than a half tank of gas, otherwise you are pouring gas into the ground, or on your driveway.
