Power steering pump.
« on: March 15, 2014 - 10:08:33 PM »
Got a question...the power steering pump on my 440,  is it a common pump that was used on several engine sizes and. If Autozone  and Advanceauto both show a replacement for about $46, would it be better to replace than try to replace the seals?       Oh,I got a leak is the reason to ask this question.

depends on your abilities and if you want the satisfaction of doing it yourself. not hard to do, but nothing wrong with an aftermarket rebuild and it will have a warranty. do yourself a favor and purge the system, refill with modern ps fluid not atf as was used in the 70's.

3 types of pumps were used , all are different , TRW , Federal & Saginaw , make sure they have the correct replacement pump , the kits is cheap & relatively easy to do except for removing & installing the pulley which you will have to do with a rebuilt as well
