six pack spacers
« on: March 29, 2014 - 01:06:22 PM »
Just installed a six pack on my 440 and it gets a little heat soak after running. Looking for 1/4 inch carb spacers to help isolate from the manifold. Looking for info but can't seem to find any. Have a shaker hood so can't go higher, thanks.

How about 1/4" thick composite type gasket  :dunno: I've seen them for Theromquads...
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

Composit would work. I've searched fel pro and federal mogal and they show a 1/4 inch gasket but when I ordered them  they were paper thin. Thanks

DO you have an aluminum manifold or cast iron?

Painted or not painted?

WOnder if any of the above would make a difference or not.

Perhaps pull the intake and block off the heat crossover?  Won't help much w/cold starts/choke, but at least the car will run.

Block the crossover
The Fel Pro 1215 is blocked as supplied just install it .
The second option is to install a thin sheet metal plate under the carbs to reflect the heat , 1/8 thick & effective .

Cross over is blocked and it's aluminum non painted. Allways used a phenolic spacer on the four barrel and it helped. Went to a cruise yesterday and got home after sunset, probably 65 degrees outside and when I put it in the garage I could here the gas perculating. Touch the manifold and it's real hot and the carbs are hot. I think some spacer/insulators would help.

I have same problem on my small block. I bought phenolic 1/2" spacers off ebay but couldn't get them to work as they kept crushing slightly in corners as I torqued carbs down. Even the slightest tightening would cause throttle shaft to bind. Guy at promax carbs said the only material he has any luck retaining thickness is delrin. I plan to make some myself soon.
