lower steering column bearing not there
« on: March 25, 2014 - 03:56:53 PM »
My 73 Cuda, doesnt seem to have a lower steering column bearing, had a look from under the car and the only thing that is on the end of the outer housing is a white plastic cap, I can grab the steering shaft and move it a good 3/4" side to side :dunno: :clueless:

The white plastic cap is all they had. There is no lower "bearing" in a 70-74 E Body. :2cents:

Here is an interesting way to fix it. I have not tried it but it is on my list.

I think there was originally a foam seal inside that plastic piece.  This kept hot engine compartment air from entering the steering column.  I made a new seal out of some scrap foam and reused the plastic piece on my Challenger.  I added an insert bearing to my Dart's column.

You can actuall fit an A & B lower column bearing into a E Body column with little effort :2cents:
