E-body projects... how long sitting and why?

I hear ya Jimynick,
I will be having heart surgery when the cardo doc says it's time (within a year or so I'm guessing) with a bad heart valve. I have another visit on the 18th to see how things are going or not going.
So I'm pushing myself to try and get it driveable before that time comes.
Thanks for your input.

My brother just had the same thing and had surgery.
Arthroscopic surgery done up thru the crotch to the heart.

He's doing well now after having a valve issue.

That's great to hear your brother is doing well.
Unfortunately, they will have to bust open my chest for my tricuspid valve. The crotch/groin isn't an option from what my doctor said.

Ibought my challenger back in 82 got it back on the road fully restored in 5 years, back when lif was simpler and I was younger,

Bought a 70 barracuda GC back in 99, got it ready for paint in the summer, my brother died in august and I inherited all his stuff, including a lt1 72 vette and a Ford truck , been overwelmed by this, but hope fully this spring/summer I can get paint on it and get back my life.


Lots of stories and reasons and excuses on here , they all make sense getting a car done is a very big challenge and that is why so many people dont do it ,my non car buddies are always imperssed by the work we do so dont let father time bite you in the ass, one thing my brother said before his passing

"better do it now while you  still can, you never know what might happen tomorrow ,you could be hit by a bus" those exact words

This is an interesting thread, after reading through all of them it amazes me how many different things interfere with what we'd like to be doing.
July 2003 I bought a 318 auto floor shift 70 Plumcrazy Challenger from my wife's cousin, the 400 police interceptor engine that was in the car came from me and it came out of a 69 Superbee that I had traded to him for the Challenger.  I worked on the Challenger for a couple of years. got a lot done including new disk brakes, frame rails, the trunk replaced and a lot of other things then in my travels ran across this 70 Satellite and ended up swapping for it. That was back in May 2005. Ended up selling the Satellite to a good friend after doing a ton of work to it. I began traveling for my work and didn't have much time to do much and that's when I pretty much dropped off the radar on CC.com. About a year ago, my friend that I sold it to lost his job and I offered to buy the car back, we made a deal for what I sold it to him for. I retired January this year and have had time to work on it and spent a lot of time and $$$ getting it completed. Should have it on the street by summer this year. There's a lot more to the story and cars in between but that's a whole other novel in itself.

I am projecting about 6 1/2 years to retirement and can't wait as the job eats 70% of time. But it provides the funds to pay the bills.
I can't wait to retire!!! 

And your right on how many different things interfere to our projects.
I like all these stories I'm reading.

And don't tell the boss...but I called in sick today to start on my wiring  . It's going to be around 78 degrees today.  A nice change with the past cold/freezing snaps.

Retirement is a great thing, but I swear I work harder now than I ever did when I had a "real job".

I saved from the age of 16 and once I graduated college and managed to get a decent job at the age of 24. I picked up my challenger locally that year. Every year I give myself a budget to buy parts but I read a few restoration books and buy parts that I know I will need during the resto. This year I bought a house and hope that in 5  years I will start the resto and have planned 5 years to complete it.

In the mean time I drive it.

I bought my TA in 79, drove it until '92. It was parked until last year. It is now in the body shop. Yes life gets in the way.

Jeeez Guys!!

I bought my '70 Challenger in 2012. I just got sick of sitting in my empty garage and looking at a plastic model of a '70 Hemi on the shelf whilst sipping beers and dreaming. 
Reading all this stuff I am so glad I bought mine close to finished!! Still needs work. Some paint issues, exhaust mods and engine stuff, fix tacho, re install underbody deadening and firewall mat, glass scratch issues, steering and tyres!!  But hey!! Had I bought a basket case 20 years ago, I dare say I would still be staring at a basket case!! 
I was just lucky I had the money at the time. 
I sympathise with some of you guys being behind the 8 ball, it can be a struggle.  Just do it if you can. Time Waits For No-one!!!
