Denso Mod
« on: March 16, 2014 - 06:07:42 PM »
so I'm doing the denso alternator mod, have it installed but not wired up yet. I will be doing the Mad electrical mods with ammeter gauge bypass and have 4 gauge wire in hand for the charge wire. Am I gonna burn my car up with this mod? will the factory wire, bulkhead and repop batt cables survive?
doing the install is easy but the electrical part makes me feel a bit uneasy.
Thanks

as long as you run a jumper from the alt output to the bat terminal on the start relay nothing will get hurt , you can run a fuse in there as well but I am not sure why as both ends have battery power

Thansk for your reply and reassurance.I do have a 100 amp fuse I was going to install but thinking it should not be needed.

finished the hook up today. I terminated the original black wire originally from the alternater and ran a 4 gauge wire with 100 amp fuse from the denso to the starter relay. I'm seeing 14.5 volts at idle(900 rpm) with headlights on and 14.2 with the brights on. the battery disconnected is reading 13 volts after I ran the car for awhile. Sound good?

now I'm hooking up a stereo system with modest amp,no subs. Is it safe to connect the amp power wire off the starter relay as well? my buddy seems concerned about the size of the battery cables ,repops. any thoughts?
Thanks in advance, electrical is not my strong suit..

Yes or you can connect to the battery directly , if you have a higher output alt though & recommend a bypass direct from the alt to the start relay

I ran mine off the starter relay. No problems.

I have never powered a  serious stereo system , I know you can end up with 4 ga wiring & 130 amp alt to make enough power , others here will have more guidance on how to wire it up properly

I looked up the specs on these amps and they don't draw a lot.got it wired up and it sounds good. just got my Hella E codes so there's some more fun stuff for me to do. Love the sound of a sealed sub!
