    Sorry, it's not some juicy pics of Elle MacPherson :drool: or some other Aussie hottie. :bananasmi

    I like how the word "Oz" came to become a common reference to Australia. What I don't know is how did that come to be? I'm guessing that with an Australian accent the pronunciation of the "AUS" abbreviation for Australian sounds very similar to "Oz". But what do I know I'm a Yank! So I thought I would go direct to the source and ask those that are from there. So what's the scoop on using the reference "Oz"?

    Been to Australia once about 10 years ago. Only stayed four days which was far too short of a visit. Going back again is definitely on my short-list of places that I want to see and vacation at again someday. Someday ...

    Hey Tom,

    You pretty much summed it up in my opinion buddy, It is an abreviation of Aussie and it is easier to spell OZ rather than AUS, plus AUS just looks wrong and is used to denote an abreviation when used with other things like AUS Dollar and such.
    So you would have spent 2 days in an airplane and 4 days on the ground with your round trip, it is a long one, but when i went i was made to feel comfortable on the plane. :2thumbs:

    It was a great trip. I was living in Hawaii at the time. On the way down I stopped in Fiji and on the way back I went to Okinawa and Guam. It was a great experience and I hope to come back some day for another visit.

    Did you see any muscle cars in Guam at all........... I know people in Guam. Sounds like it would have been a much easier flight from Hawaii to Australia with stop overs than going the full ditance in one hit to the mainlands of Australia to America.

    Tom,

    You need to get out here and drive the country roads. :burnout:
    There are a lot of lonely highways out here with no-one on 'em. 
    It's just the right place to stretch the legs of a big block Mopar!! 
    And there are some good car shows and weekend auto swapmeets and activities to enjoy and like minded people to meet!!

    Some of us are also totally obsessed!!   :thumbsup:
