front brake caliper pics needed
« on: March 09, 2013 - 01:19:01 PM »
Does anyone have a picture of the way the front disc brake hoses are suppose to run and where the bleeders are suppose to be pointed? I am having a hell of a time installing my brakes and getting everything to line up and the car has been apart for years. Any help would be great. I have the pin type calipers and the hoses seem to be short.

I guessing you're working on a 71 Challenger.
First off...Make sure the caliper is mounted on the front of the spindle, it's quite simple to mix up the right and left spindles.
Then keep in mind the bleeder screw should be on top of the caliper...

What is the wire spring for on the outboard side of the caliper. Anti rattle? I've never put them on.

Thanks guys for the pics. Not one of my restoration books had a picture of the brakes and with the car not having brakes on it for years, I forgot which way they faced. I had a case of an "i'm and idiot" and put the spindles on backwards. All is good now, just waiting on a caliper seal so I can finish the brakes and get her back on the ground.

When re-assembling my Challenger I couldn't remember how the calipers went back on and could not find a photo from dis-assembly.  I looked for pictures and diagrams and found one in my "official" 70 Challenger shop manual.  It showed the calipers in the rear of the spindle so that is the way I installed them.  All went well until I tried to connect my brake hoses.  Did not work!  So, I changed the spindles side to side which put the calipers in front of the spindle.  Then----I found a picture I had taken prior to dis-assembly clearing showing how they should be.  I still don't know why my manual, showing a factory photo would show them in the rear.

in later years the caliper can go to the rear , you use a different caliper & hose with a banjo fitting , I do this a lot when converting 68-69 B bodies where the caliper will interfere with the sway bar in front

I realize this hasn't been posted in for quite awhile, but i have a similar question for a 73 Challenger with front disc brakes. When my new hoses wouldn't reach, i figured i must have something wrong. So on a 73 challenger does the calipers fit onto the front of the spindle also? does this also mean i have to take the spindles off and switch sides? It has been almost 7 years, and i could have sworn they were on the rear of the spindle.

Yes in 1973 the calipers mount the same way as in the above pictures. :2cents:
