Head Gaskets
« on: March 23, 2014 - 08:36:59 PM »
:clueless:  Hi guys,  for a 440  that's .040 over, what do I look for in a good head gasket?  Do they come in a size for the bigger bore?  Thanks.

some do , most do not come is specific bore sizes  , what heads are you using , what is the compression ratio , is quench a factor ?

I'm 40 over on my 496 and Fel-Pro had the right size.
Been running great for 14 years.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Going with Felpro 1009 gaskets that have o-rings, ARP head bolts , copper exhaust gaskets on Doug's Headers, New polished aluminum valve covers I'm sealing with hi-temp clear. Current cr is 10.5/1.
Hopefully my quench will be correct. Edelbrock tech said should be good swap. Thanks for the input!

If you are using Alum heads I would use Cometic gaskets , so you have expansion capabilities without tearing the gasket fibers

Neal, I already bought the 1009's so I guess I'll go with them. That's what Edelbrock recommends. Hope they're ok. Thanks!

They will fail over time how long depends , alum expands at 2x the rate of iron so the gaskets are constantly pulled as they expand & contract .if it is in the cold climate over winter & started in cold weather it will fail faster
