Ebay rant

Saw a original steering wheel posted at Ebay some days ago. It was at a very fair price so i checked back from time to time. 24 hrs remaining, no bids so i placed mine. 1 hr remaining and only my bid. 10 minutes remaining and only my bid, wow....
2 minutes and i am sitting and staring at the computer with the Ebay page on the screen. 20, 10, 2 seconds and "bang", the price goes up in steps and ends on a 20% increase....
Time is out, a sign comes up saying "you lost"....   

I was shot down by a sniper so is it really fair with these software's? Well, guess i need to get myself one of these armed guys...

I'm virtually done with Ebay for a number of reasons, the sniping factor isn't even on my radar, I was doing that ten years ago without any sniping software.. It's the only way not to get in a bidding war.... I want the part but if you know I'm bidding you'll spend more than you think it's worth to win the auction... So you go ahead bid what you think it's worth & I'll wait till the end to see if you want it more than me... But if before the end of the auction someone else comes along you two can fight it out.... Bid Early, Bid Often.. Thats the sellers dream & the fools game plan...

The worst is when your bid would have most likely won you the auction, but with 20 seconds to go your ISP fails you once more. By the time your bid hits, you get that screen telling you that you cannot bid as the bidding is closed for this item...That is a FUN experience!

eBay has really gotten away from being an auction site and become more of a selling site.  I spend a lot mroe time checking craigslist than eBay nowadays.

I use a sniper program all the time on EBay.....Why stress out about it....set your snipe and for get about it...

I enjoy the manual sniping process myself. Bid early and set a proxy amount.  Then re-visit just before the auction closes ready to do whatever you feel the part justifies... It apart of the eBay enjoyment for me, and there are always more parts.

My rant was more on the sniper programs than Ebay.
The site was a big help when I gathered parts for my GC resto and most of the hard to find parts was found on Ebay.
Sure, on a few occasions I got carried away and paid maybe a little too much but what the heck, that's what auctions are about, right? And I got the needed part so one more item to tick off the list.

I agree on what JS27N0B says, I enjoy the manual sniping on Ebay but these sniper programs really kills it.

I have a certain understanding for professional car restorers like Alan who use this tool to get more time in the shop rather than sitting in front of the computer.
But, that's him. For me, it sucks.

I started using  because of different time zones...Some guy has his auction ending at 10pm his time, but it's 3am here....I'm not losing sleep over Mopar parts...

It only take 1 person who really wants that part you are bidding on to drive the price over what is it worth.Sometimes you have  sellers jacking the price up by friend or family member bidding it up on a different computer.I have bought over 600 items on Ebay.My advice is wait till the end and bid the most you are willing to spend on a item.If you bid too much out of the gate you are going to drive the price to high to quick.

I agree with 4speed and Alan. why ***** about the process. set your max bid and forget about it. if you win great, if not move on to the next 1. Ebay is an excellent way to find, buy, and sell. nothing like it existed before. Parts and other things that people had no use for ended up as trash. now they end up with people than can use and repurpose. I just sold some stuff I found in my basement to someone in Brazil. It was junk to me, but worth something to him. How else could you do this?
