Texting While Driving

Crashed Classic Cars - Images
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Texting is my biggest fear now. How many times have you been sitting at a red light, and it turns green, but the car in front of you doesn't move because the driver has his/her head down texting.

Recently, I was the second car at a red light. It turned green, and I waited, and waited...Then I pulled left into the "wrong" lane because nobody was coming the other way and went around the dumb arse. I looked in my rear view mirror, and the car was still sitting at the green light. It must have been one important text.   ::)

Mike, you are one polite guy.  :grinyes:

In Boston we do things a little differently...   They don't call us Mass-holes for nothing.  :roflsmiley:

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Technology always solves these problems with time.  It's just sad that damage like this has to happen first.  Newer cars, like my wife's Prius, use blue tooth to automatically link to her phone when she gets in the car.  If she gets a text it will read it to her out loud through the speakers.  If she wants to send a reply, all she has to do is talk.  Everythind is done with voice commands or pushing buttons on the steering wheel.  She never even needs to take her phone out of her purse.  It will be awile before eveybody has this tech in their cars and of course there will always be "expletive deleted" people that insist on doing it the hard way even when they have these tools available to them.   :banghead:

Hmm how's this for an idea:

Make new cars have a plugin for your smart phone (whichever is fine - multiple plugs can be made) which plugs into a port in your console which will allow you to start the car after you close the console door. Everything from there is hands free and any tampering will bring the car to a halt.

Kinda reminds me of airlines and smoking...
