    Firewall painting

    Here is a photo of my ('72) firewall after removing all but the A/C evaporator.  As you can see the firewall had patches of black (something) applied to it in seemingly strategic places.  Can anyone tell me what this was all about?  Is it "factory" or something applied at a later time?

    Never noticed it before but my non-a/c '73 has the same black spray around some openings...
    I'm guessing it's factory.

    I'm sort of thinking so too, it's not really paint, more like thin undercoating.   Not sure why though  :clueless:
