I must say I think the best part of restoring one of these cars is the metal fab work. It looks like your doing a fantastic job of it to!!!!!!!! Keep the photos comming.

Hey everyone.  I have still been pecking away at it slowly.  I worked a bunch of over-time this summer and didn’t have much time to work on the car.  The trunk gutter is the last thing I have to install and then I can finally say that the rear drivers side is done!

Here is the package tray fix, dutchman panel install, and checking the alignment of the deck lid.

The lower part of my trunk hinge bracket was toast so I made my own.  It seems that Goodmark/Sherman/AMD start reproducing what ever part I need about 3 months after I decide to make myself, so expect to see these soon!

Here is what I will be working on next.  Once I get it cut up and welded in I am sure that they will start making the ‘71 taillight panels too!

Kyle great to see you are still making progress. Everything seems to be coming together and you will have a great car when it's done.

Well, it's been several years since I have posted any updates but I've been truckin' right along at a snails pace.

I think this is about where I left off, circa 2009.  I removed the right rear quarter to find it was just as crappy underneath as the left side.

I replaced the inner and outer wheelhouse and fabricated/replaced the other rusty crap.

I welded on the new quarter and partially re-skinned the door (not quite done with it yet).

I fitted the trunk lid, taillight panel, rear valance and bumper to see how it all looked.  Then I didn't do much to the car for about two years, mainly because I worked 10 hour days, 5 and 6 days a week with an hour commute each way for a while.

Novermber of 2011 I decided I'd had enough of working for the man and quit my job.  I moved my car to my buddy's place, more space and less neighbors to disturb, and stripped it down to the shell.

In my several year hiatus AMD had started stamping more and more stuff so I jumped in and bought everything I needed to replace on the car.  I started with a nice big chunk of floor and my home-made frame connectors.

Then, the day before New Years I did some self modifying and more or less amputated the end of my finger with an angle grinder.  In the battle of cut-off disk Vs. finger, cut-off disk wins every time.

Floors are finally done!

More to come...

It has been over a year again since I have updated this thing...man am I slow!  I had intended to post a bunch of pics of the all the metal I've replaced but it would take me forever to organize it.  To keep it simple, here is everything that I did not replace:

upper/lower radiator core support
right inner fender
both front frame rails
torsion bar cross member
both inner and outer rockers
most of the inner structure of the body
package tray
misc. bracing all over

That's all the body work I'm going to do.  Whether or not it needs some more I think I am pretty much done.   :banghead:

To date I've rebuild the front suspension, brakes, reinstalled the 383, installed a fuel injection system (Powerjection 3), ditched the 727 and installed an OD 4 speed and the pedals.  Below are a couple of videos from today of it running.  I got brave and drove it down the block too!

I've still been plodding along getting my car going.  Over the winter I replaced all the wiring and just have some odds and ends to finish up.  Eventually I will probably get a shaker hood, but for the time being I cut a hole in my original rusty flat hood and have been working on a bolt on fiberglass 6-pak scoop.  I took my brother out for a ride this past weekend, and to make sure the scoop didn't blow off.  His girlfriend snapped some pics when we got back.  I'll probably just drive it like it is this summer to continue working out the bugs.  Hopefully it will have a date with the body shop next year!
