4" backspacing 15x8 wheels with 275 tires in the rear?
« on: May 22, 2014 - 03:39:45 PM »
I have a set of restored Cragar Keystone Klassics ready for new rubber. They are 15x7 front and 15x8 rear, all with 4 inch backspacing.

Available tires choices over here are limited to 235/60R15 front and either 255/60 or 275/60. Rear axle is 8.75, stock Rallye springs.

Would the 275/60 clear the fender lips with this backspacing?

I believe you want 4.5" backspacing then you could easily get the 275's in the rear.

That's what I found yeah. But the Keystones come in 4". Don't want the tires to rub the wheel wells or lips.

Experiences anyone?

I have 255s with 3.75 backspace. They will rub on a good bounce, especially with someone in the back seat. You gain a 1/4" on the backspace but have a wider tire so likely about the same thing.

@blown motor:
Rub inside wheel wells or fender lips?

Fender lip. I've been trimming it but it's still not enough. Might have to add a leaf. 1 1/2" space on the inside. You really need a 4 1/2" backspace or a B-body rear axle.

Went with 245/60 rear and 225/60 front. Distinct look and for sure no rubbing.
