Ideas please... for mounting an automatic transmission cooler in a functional area other than obsuring radiator.   Car is a '73 Challenger.  I have not purchase the tranny cooler so I have some flexibility as to the cooler's size and shape.

I made two brackets mounting to the rad saddle, thenm mounted the tranny cooler and a power steering cooler to it. It's 2-3" away from the rad.

Brad,

did you run hoses from teh cooler all the way back to the trans? adn if you did, did you just use hose clamps, I have just installed TTI's on my 340 and the trans cooler hard lines need to go as they are just in the way all over the place.

or, you can mount it away from radiator, but have a small fan
attached to it to aid cooling.

No the steel hard lines run up to the valance. Rubber from there.

It needs to be mounted such that an adequate amount of air passes thru it when moving...otherwise one of the B&M Hi-tek coolers will work, but they ain't cheap unless you compare them to the cost of a new tranny.  Use the largest one you can mount if you live in a hotter part of the country.  Up north, it's not such a problem.

I had an issue with cooling ,first mounted them(oil  and trans cooler) in front of the rad, the car ran hot,

I relocated and angled them with some angle aluminum ,now they work very well and it gets up to 100 f here in the summer and have traveled two long desert trips and never had a cooling issue

Thanks Guys, appreciate the input.
Does anyone know the size of the fittings that screw into the trans housing please, I'm thinking I will go to flex lines (from trans to cooler) and AN- fittings rather than hose clamps

Your memory serves you well, it is 1/8 NPT. I've orders some AN-6 fittings and some braided line, yet to order a cooler.
what about mounting it to the rear of the car? :dunno:, somewhere where stone damage is not going to cause grief, any ideas where or if its a good idea!

those stacked plate coolers are pretty tough, unlike an aluminum radiator.
