My dad finally has his mini cooper race car done.  He is racing at mid ohio next month.  My brother and I are going to get him an in car camera to record the race.  Does anybody have any experience with these?  Is one better than the other or are there any other cameras that will work?  It would have been cool to have it for his last race when he cut a tire and hit the wall!  I actually pulled the fender out with a 2x4 and got him into the next heat....only to have him blow up the motor :walkaway

I have a couple GoPro's a 2 and a 3.  They are cheap for what they are (HD quality) and there are lots of accessories to tailor the mounts to the shot you want to get.  I've had mine suction cup mounted to my Challenger at Watkins Glen at about 130 with no problems.  The sticky mount held up through a demolition derby too.  Just take my advice and whatever you buy play with it BEFORE the day of the race so you know how it works and don't accidentally put it in photo mode and miss all the action.
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

Read reviews and comparisons of the monoprice vs GoPro.

I wanted the GoPro but didn't have the $$ so I bought the Monoprice ( First one linked below) for under $90
It has gone White Shark dived in South Africa, Skiing at Whistler, snorkeling in Cabo and has recorded lots of road trips.
I am very happy with the results and, considering the price, VERY VERY satisfied with the camera.
It is not a GoPro, but ........ You can get 4 of them for the price of one GoPro!

I have not tried this one but it looks interesting too.

Really the go pro webpage has a good breakdown of the models.  It comes down to the resolution and frame rate you want.

I have a few myself, the audio takes some work as the stock mics do not work very well without some add ons.

Here is one I shot with 2 cameras and some external mics:

and here is another:

And then here are some other videos:

I have the go-pro 2 silver. I am very happy with it, though I haven't subjected it to anything extreme. It's been underwater off Mexico and Cuba, and recorded tramping around the bush when hunting.
I use an android phone app to remotely control it at times.
