Resurecting an old thread I know, but lots of info in it. Brad, what was the reason for having to drill the throttle plates and air bleeds? Do you have a radical cam in there? Was the carb not really intended for the engine you have?
I have a quick fuel BD-850 on it's way to my house. Kinda hoping I don't have to go through the same excercises as you.

Reason for drilling the holes in the plates was to allow enough air in while keeping the plates closed. It ran REALLY rich at idle other wise.

It just makes me wonder what engine combination would have worked (out of the box) for that carb. You were so far out of the adjustment range of the carb's design that you had to alter it by drilling air holes in the throttle plates.  :dunno:

Not uncommon, some carbs come with holes in the throttle plates.

Sometimes. you can access the secondary throttle blade adjustment and crack the secondaries enough that you don't need to drill the primaries and some of the newer carbs feature enough adjustment in the air bleeds that you can make the necessary adjustments. Get on the net, I've seen lots of articles in the press- Hot Rod, Car Craft, Popular Hotrodding about this. Good luck!
