Removing speedometer glass?
« on: May 15, 2014 - 02:51:42 PM »
Hi,

I'm gonna change the speedometer head in my '72 Challenger, or actually I'll just flip the existing one as the previous owner just wrote the kmh scale on the backside of the existing mph one.

Do I need to remove the whole cluster to do this or is there some way to just remove the speedometer glass?

I've been trying to find info on this in the manual as well as online without luck :(

Thanks in advance!

I believe you have to pull the whole cluster because the clips are on the back which allow you to undo the clear cover.

Unless you have really magic tiny hands to get into very small places!

As stated; you need it out to access the push in clips that hold it on.

Take the cluster out. Place it on a heavy towel face down. Then take something flat and press down each of the pins.

Thanks for the answers! I guess this is something that'll have to wait until I put the car away for the winter.

And thanks for the link JayBee. That's something I definitely should consider buying as I'm not sure what the police has to say about mph speedos over here :)
