Broken valve spring

As for replacing them all or one, I think it'd be a false economy to roll the dice again by changing just the one. My thinking goes along the " if one failed, how far ahead is the next one" road.

The saying  "I told you so...." would be appropriate here.....LOL

I will be following this thread...looks like I need to replace my valve seals, and hopefully thats all.
Sometime during the week I will be removing the rocker shaft and need to pick up a spring compressor tool.
Never done it before so....

FYI, I had done the first one with the help/guidance of my father-in-law.....the latest one I did myself...fueled by being pissed and upset....and it was easy as pie.....of course my guess is that cylinder #7 and 8 will be harder due to location......

While the reading room this morning i was perusing a mopar mag and came across a but that said that valve springs need to be broken in.  The suggested way to do it was to run the engine to normal temp at no more than 2k rpms and then let it cool to room temp....says that this will prolong spring life....

You guys do this?

Comp suggests that technique.  Of course they also suggests running a new flat tappet cam up to 2500 rpm on break in but I suspect the extra rpm really does not hurt as it is still low.  The idea is to "heat treat" the springs to improve longevity.

Seems like that is something they could do at the factory, doesnt it?

I went ahead and did it.  Just to be safe.

I did google the concept and it seems that some spring manufacturers do heat treat on their end.....so who knows.   

Couldnt hurt.
