Best protectant for non chalky door panels
« on: May 27, 2014 - 11:20:53 AM »
Hey all, I'm in the process of freshening up the interior on my 73.  The dash pad is near mint and the white door panels show just the earliest signs of pre chalking.  It's been garage kept all these years, but I'll be driving it whenever I can.  That means sun exposure.  I've done some digging on the site and learned that in the past 303 was a highly recommended protectant for the dash pad.

My questions are:  Is there anything better nowadays or is 303 still considered "the best", and is there a specific protectant recommended for door panels to keep them from going chalky? or is 303 good for that too?  I've never had a car worth putting anything better than Armor All on, so this is new territory for me.  Thanks for your help, and let the debate begin!

I think 303 is one of the best if not the best protectant.  I've got a friend that uses it on all vinyl and rubber parts on his late 80's truck.  It sits outside in the high desert of Eastern OR and the dash/weather stripping look and feel brand new.  My only gripe is that 303 is a dust magnet but I'll take that for the great benefits it provides.

Thanks for the replies guys.  All the E-Body guys know you only get 1 shot at keeping the dash and panels original.  I'd like to protect them the best I can, and it seems from here and others, that 303 has a good reputation.  I'll have to check it out.

I frequent a few RV forums as well. Preventing trailer tires from 'aging out' before they 'wear out' is often an issue. 303 has the best rep for preventing the sidewalls from cracking apart.

Now that you mention it, I just got 4 new tires for my hauler, and I never thought of that!  I looked at several sets of used tires, all with like new tread and they were all dry rotted to death.  Thanks for mentioning that!

Been using 303 for over 20 years on tires and vinyl.  Sampled many other products over the years, have found nothing better.  No scum buildup on interior windows from the off gassing of some products, no bronzing of tire sidewalls as from same certain product,,,,although have heard that this company's newly introduced product may now work well on tires,,,plan to give it a try.

Yes.

The 303 line of products is the good stuff,,,any negative comments are directed at another very well known company's product line.  Sorry if any confusion.
