3 dead clocks.... Why !?!?

70 Cuda

I've now been through 3 Rallye clocks. The one that came in the car and 2 replacements from OER. Yesterday I did what I should've done originally and sent one of the bad ones to Redline to get a modern quartz movement.

On all 3 the second hand works perfect when timed but the clock itself will lose 30-45min in an hour. With all of them doing the same I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong or have really bad luck. I'm getting power from the Amp gauge. Is that where the factory got it from ?

My OER lost time too untill I noticed that the set knob was not retracting all the way.
After setting the time make sure that the set knob is back out and the teeth on the setting gear inside is not touching by giving the knob a few twists and watching that the hands don't move or even twitch.
I think what was happening with mine anyway was the clock was meeting extra resistance from the set knob and slowing it down... if that makes sense. It's been right on the money for months now.
Mine is a 70-71 style with the remote knob/cable.

I have the same style as you. Mine was keeping perfect time then the next day it was 7hours off without having touched anything. I know exactly what your talking about and that's not the problem with mine. I wish it was that simple though. :(

I believe they were adjustable so everytime you set the clock forward it would increase the speed of the clock or slow the speed of the clock if it has to be adjusted backwards all the time . So as it was adjusted it would become more accurate

I had a clock that worked like that.  Daylight Savings Time made a mess of it.  :-\

Open it up and put some thin oil on the pivots. Here's a good page on repairing and calibrating the clocks:

The knob is mostly for fine tuning if it's off 5 or so minutes. If it's off 30-40 minutes, you'll have to get inside and move the slider near the mainspring to increase or decrease the spring pressure to change the clock speed.

I had already sent a dead spare to Redline to get quartz which they received last Tues (Sat. now) and I'm still waiting on them to call to tell me how much my spare is gonna cost me.  :)
