Ethanol question(s)
« on: June 19, 2014 - 08:43:31 PM »
I read a lot about ethanol in our fuel supply causing a lot of problems in systems from muscle cars, late model vehicles and small engines. A lot of the info is conflicting and was just wondering what the straight scoop was. I can understand dumping fuel out of your weed whacker, etc. during the off season but it is hard to justify dumping all the fuel from my Challengers tank for the winter months. I also read in most small engine manuals that you should not use fuel with ethanol if it is over a month old :banghead: Are there any really good/reliable additive products out there to reduce/eliminate the nasty effects of the ethanol. Are there really that many bad issues when using ethanol laced fuels? I see tons of junk in the big box auto stores that make great claims but I have no clue if any of this stuff works. I have no access to non ethanol fuel in this region and I hate to spend huge bucks on racing/special types fuels just for cruising. Any opinions/suggestions out there?

E10 has been in the US fuel supply for over 30 years and everything is mandated by the government to be able use it.  How many cars have you seen broken down along the roads due to ethanol problems ?  I have never even had access to straight gas for longer than I can remember and have never had any issues.

How many soldiers have been killed fighting over corn fields ?  :D

The nice thing about Florida is that they passed a law last year that makes it legal for our qas stations to sell gas with no ethanol.  Now we have "pure gas" stations popping up.

We could use a law like that in Mass.

Here's all I know about ethanol... its chewed up the plugs in my quadra -bog (Pontiac) 3 times! Now I'm not talking spark plugs but the factory plugs in the fuel bowl. From what some of the bowtie boys have been telling me, this is turning into a chronic issue. I'm putting the carb back on this week end, we will see.................  :banghead:
