Transmission Fluid - What to use
« on: June 16, 2014 - 08:02:29 AM »
I have been trying to search down some mysterious leaks on my trans and so far I have failed to identify any. After getting the car up to temperature I realised the trans was low on fluid. What should i use in my A904?

I have done some preliminary Google searching and I guess there seems to be 2 trains of thought ATF-4 or F type.

What is the difference? what is everyone else running?

Also what is people's opinions on additives? what do you recomend?

thanks guys! i am trying to get the car running wel for the 28th of June so I can attend a car show.

F type is better IF the trans is new , otherwise ATF3 is probably what is in there now

I have no reason to beleive this transmission was rebuilt in the last 15 years. Still shifts smooth so I think I will run some ATF-3.

I've been running ATF-4 in mine with no issues...  shifts great and seems to be holding up to abuse.
