73 Challenger hood release
« on: November 11, 2008 - 08:44:17 AM »
I recently got an interior hood release cable and I am not sure where the pull handle installs inside the car. The car looks like it had one originally, I can see where some one cut the original wire from the release catch under the hood. Does anyone know where the handle is supposed to mount under the dash?

Thanks much!

The top of the release handle slops down on the right side. There is a notch that it fits into about two inches to the right from the bottom left side of the dash frame.
If the top of the release handle is flat straight across, it's not an E body release handle.

on my 73 the hood release comes straight from under the dash on the right side, the E0-brake lever comes off at an angle towards the center of the car right beside it

Thanks much guys. I crawled around underneath the steering wheel last night and saw where the handle goes. Pictures help so much.

Hi,

where is it on the pic above? Just above the brake release handle? The handle should be mounted vertical with the letters H O O D from top to bottom, isn't it. Has someone detailed pictures please. I've got one, but afaik this wasn't an option for 1970, even if classicindustries states 70-74 for the repros.

Old thread I know, but why not fresh pics in here?

TIA

WalkAbout,, just looked at the Classic Industries ones in the catalog. Will they bolt right up without any mods? Are the release plates prepped for them in ebodies, or do you need to drill a hole for the cable or anything? Any member/deaelrs here sell them? Thanks.

I've got an original restored one together with the hood latch. It looks like the one on Classic Industries and like described her. In the firewall I have a hole anyway at this side. All was mounted in 10 minutes, only have to screw the handle in the right place. Tried to find a place, but was not successful yet. But it was winter, season starts right now.

Thanks edl94, I was assuming that location, but at the first try it didnt fit really vertically. Maybe someone has a pic that shows the 2 screws that mounts the handle. I think I have to drill the holes by myself.

I have a chrome horizonal handle like first pitcher. There is a black plastic angled shim that goes between handle and dash. Can anyone else confirm a chrome horizonal handle. The only one I have found for sale is for a B body.
