727 Rear Output Shaft Bearing...
« on: May 30, 2014 - 09:51:45 AM »

Hi

At this Moment I am really tired of my car! If I take the car out and drive it one day I can be sure something get broken. So the same this time. I took the car for a spin (about 100 miles), last period I was at highway, driving 60-70mph (2800-3200rpm). Suddenly I noticed strong vibrations from one second to other. The vibrations are so bad, the whole car is shaking, it starts from 10mph depending from speed.

So few minutes ago I jacked the car up. I saw there was a lot of Transmission Fluid under the car, it came from the output Shaft from the 727. I tried to move the drive Shaft... and I saw the U-Joint haves play. I think about 3-4mm  :-\
So I think its the rear output Shaft Bearing.... is it right? Do I need to take out the Tranny to change that Bearing or is it a simple thing?

Thanks a lot. Tom

you do not have to pull the trans , you can remove the tail housing or there is a tool to change it in the car , But are the U joints Bad , is the driveshaft long enough , the yolk should slide all the way in until it almost pushes against the dust seal on the rear seal , you should barely have 1" of extra travel to remove the rear of the shaft from the yolk ?

Hi

So it is possible to take the bearing out on both sides, it means with the right tool i can pull it out on the side from the driveshaft even the tail housing is in? Nice, so i can try to fix it at home...

Thanks for this reply. I will take the driveshaft out an look if everything seems to be ok. It seems i have travel enough but will see...

Thanks

Check your bushing @ rear of tailshaft housing. When your u-joints/rear bearing are showing excessive wear/vibration it can wipe the bushing out, too. If you install another one make sure oil return groove is pointed in right direction (up) so yoke is oiled.

Ok thanks a lot. Tody i changed the bushing (yes now i know its not a bearing) with a tool from snap on. It came out easy with that, the new was in quick.
I was confused a little about the oil seal. I bought that from napa (16725) and it looks different to the ATP oil seal. But anyway it fits and i hope its so good as the other one (should be, double price compared with ATP).

No vibration now. Thanks
