Need help before ordering a part which is best?
« on: October 19, 2015 - 12:52:14 PM »
Hey guys my 1971 challenger has always had a fuel cell in the trunk but I ordered a gas tank to put it back in the original place to use the trunk, the gas tank I ordered dosent have a sending unit and looked up online and these two came up, and I'm not sure which one is best or what the pros and cons of the one that's bigger lines with 2 lines to the one that's smaller with one line 😕??? It's had a 440 but currently it's a 318 right now till I rebuild the 440 to put it back, I don't know of the engine size matters ! Any recommendations will help 😊

I would recommend the 3/8 one with a corresponding 3/8 body fuel line with a 440. You can get by with 5/16 but why not go like the factory did with 3/8 for the same price. You can cap off the return nipple or run a vapor line back from the fuel filter if desired. I find the vapor line is helpful with the current fuels.

If you're going 440 in the future you should go with the 3/8's however won't make much of a difference if the factory 5/16 lines are still in place. :2cents:

I would agree with the 3/8's main line, but also strongly suggest running a return line.  This avoids any fuel vapor lock issues by keeping your fuel to the carb more cool.

Are you running an electric or mechanical fuel pump?

I also agree to utilize a return line if you are using an electric pump. Currently I have a return line with a carb. (Slow transition to EFI). Getting fresh gas at startup it fires right away. Also I have found that when I park it, I turn off pump a little before I shut engine down to drain some fuel I no longer get gas fumes engulfing my garage.

Win win
