abandoned home
« on: December 08, 2003 - 01:43:48 PM »
I have a question.  First i have found a car that is sitting in the yard of an abandoned house.  I know it is abandoned because i tried to buy the car a while back and the guy wouldn't sell it.  He had passed away in April this past year.  How exactly can i get this car.  I don't know if there are any next of kin and i know his wife is also dead. What should i do?  I'd like to get this car before someone steals it.  Thanks for your time.

depending on the state, you can fill out a notice of abandoned vechicle and the state will take possession and you could buy it from them or get it at auction or not tell them about it and not have to risk the ignoramuses at the DMV calling it a clunker and crushing it.

Find out who owns the property, maybe a relative or possibly the state if he had no will. The Registry of Deeds should have some info on it.It may also still be in probate if there was no will and the state will be involved before anything is done.It will either be passed on to next of kin or possbly auctioned if there are no relatives.

The safest and easiest way - No risk of prosecution and if a Laywer don't know what to do - then no one will  8)

I'll definity take some time over christmas break to find more info on the car.  It looked in really good condition when i saw it.  But there is snow on the ground now, so it might be harder to see what i want to see.  I know what you mean about not telling anyone about it. But you have to know that i'm not originally from Fargo... hehehe, It isn't even close to fargo.  Thanks for the help.
