opinion on race car
« on: January 28, 2004 - 03:47:02 PM »
I have had my sights on a drag cuda for some time now since most of my friends have drag cars of some flavor and I just came across this one on evil-bay and thought it looked reasonable??  What do you guys and girls think??  Actually even at the buy it now price I didn't think it was too shabbie??  I would store it until I can complete the convert, but at least i would have the shell for a drag car!!  ::)

Thanks Bart!!  I do have my sights set on a 70 or 71.  I liked the middle one probably the best.  But the other if bought for a good price I think is a pretty good deal! But I'm certainly no expert at drag cars . . . still learning.   8)

Hi 4cruzin,
I know squat about dragging too :-\ The thing that caught my eye was he said this wouldn't be a good project. I have a feeling he may have beat the tar out of this, and it needs far more than a new drivetrain. You should shoot him an E-mail just to be sure. His feedback would lead you to believe he is a straight shooter.

Thanks MEKrunner, I think he was talking about not being a good project for a "pro street car", and I would have a tough time trying to license a car with no title in this state anyway!  CP I agree with you too, I'm going to e-mail for additional pics!  Maybe you can help me with a couple of terms. You sure no the mopars!

What does back-halfed mean??

And this: Set-up for Mopar BB and glide??

I assume this is the ignition?? MSD-7AL with two step

All help is greatly appreciated!  8)

back 1/2 is new narrowed rear frame rails with ladder or 4 link suspension , tubs & coilovers
BB & glide is the "hot" race set up , big block with Chev power glide tranny , I would never run this combo
MSD 7 AL is the old style analog ignition system

Chryco I knew you'd know the answers!  I said before, you are a wealth of info, dude!! And I know I would never run that B & B Glide combo either!

NZ, curious??  Why not??  I certainly do want a drag car, but I'm not sure the timing is right at this moment with the convert. project going on but if the right car came along . . . . . I'd buy!

Thanks again for all your help gang!

There's just so much wrong, and the price is a dead give away. Why so cheap? I wouldn't sell that car like that for less than 10K minimum!!, that is considering it's 100% or close to being mechanically sound. That car might sell below it's by-me-now price so that just makes it look even more dodgey. For that price the seller knows there's something wrong and wants to sell it at a cheap price because he knows thats better than nothing  ;)
If your a bargin hunter and now how to buy stuff off people face to face, phone, paper adds etc you wouldn't consider this car.
There'll be better out there mate just bide your time  8)

Hey DodgeFreak

I'm in Detroit so thats probably about 8 hours away.  I'm sure another drag car will show itself and my opportunity will arise!  Until then, I'm watching!  I guess if I really had my choice, I'd prefer a '71 but more likely I'll end up with a '70.  Just made more of them . . .

NZ yes I agree, the "Buy it now" price does seem really low but I've seen other drag cars not bring much money and it surprises me.  I know it costs alot to build one.  I would prefer it to have a certified cage already installed and no engine or trans, I really want to build my own.

Thanks for everyones input!

if it was me, the car would need to have a title...or checked out real good to make sure no hidden problems...

remembers a month or so back, in the mopar collector's guide about the wheel standing general lee..they went through a divorce, and see sold the car but the courts said it was his then they found the car and the repo. guys took it back.. 20 years later.....
