OK, I've asked this before and was hopeing someone can tell me EXACTLY how a 1970 slap-stik shifter works?

I've heard it either pops back by itself or you have to nudge it back manually?

Thats all I need to know, if you have to nudge it how far back? Does it click so you don't shift into 1st?
If it pops back by itself, how far and can you notice it pop back?

Confusing but simple........

One other thing

The nudging that your talking about happens when the
the shifter starts getting old.
A good re-greasing and shifter rods check (4 looseness)
will tune the dude up

to get it back into reverse or park of course you push
the button again and push it forward  to the top.

Brought a console + Brackets and the slap-stik shifter assembly yesterday form Tonysparts, should be here next week!
So I'll get it restored professionally and cleaned up, greased etc and have that bad boy ready to "slap."

It works with my mild 360/904 bracket car

If you aim for 5900 rpm the tach will still go to about
6100 or so before the transmission shifts
My 360 runs on regular gas "MTBE additive and all"
In the traps it's at about 6200 rpm and it runs 12:35 or
:40 like clockwork, 106MPH.

 When I put my Six Pack on I ended up puting a rev limiter on my engine because second was so fast.

 Hey NZ when Ipull the car out in the spring I normally have to give the shifter mechanism a shot of WD before I go out chrpin tire

While experimenting on 10 inch slicks I got out of shape
a couple of times shifting into 2nd but only a little
wobble into 3rd.(most of that is from too low on rear tire
 air pressure)

The bite feeling is a comepletey different animal on
slicks
At the dry hop after a short burnout you feel yourself
pressed into the seat and sometimes at the launch you
can loose track of the horizon as the dr side tire lifts off
the ground. The first gear shift is so quick if you think
about it, it's already too late so you learn to shift by
the sound more then the tach.
You really can't compare the feel of any street car to
even a slow bracket car like mine.
A 1:58 sixty foot time will rock your world

the TEN second car was another matter altogether

I'll just go about driving it for the first time very easilly, I won't floor it until I get use to it. I'll keeping going further and further until it's at it's peak rpm or where ever I want to shift to.

This slap-stik shifter sounds like a work of art!!  

Were lucky in the e-bodies having both Manual and Auto transmissions that are both disrable.  

4-speed and Slap-stik!!! Bring it on phord and chivis!!  


I bet your ten second car would open up hard, so what your saying is my car will only bite a little if any with 245/60/15x8 street tires?



I'm hopeing my car will be around 380hp - 415hp maybe more but not looking for more, just a bonus.
