I would say a 383 R/T or Cuda with a 440 now installed would me worth more than a 318 Barracuda or Challenger with the same 440 installed considering body conditions etc were all the same.

I always look at what the car was when new, look at the options and go from there. I'de rather have a 383 R/T with all the power toys and A/C than a 440 R/T that had no options if the asking prices were the same. I would also look at original colour as having an impact on price.
A high impact paint colour would be much more desireable than a brown or a green IMHO.

If the engine is not there, go through it's fender tag and see what is and then you can offer a price. If the engine is not there but everything else is that's fine BUT the point of this thread is can they still use this "REAL MCOY" basis to sell there car, I know it's only eBay sellers but I've also seen it several other places.

If the engine that it was surpose to have from the factory is not there and the seller is saying that it's a real "440+6" e-body BUT the engine got taken and it is now a 383, IMO the car is not a real mcoy unless it's ALL complete - I'm not putting down guys with clones etc I myself will build one oneday so I can do what I want BUT that's not the point here it's when is real, REAL??

I suppose you could make the distinction btw "numbers matching" and a "real" vehicle. "Real" does not necessarily mean "numbers matching". "Real" and/or "numbers matching" doesn't necessarily mean that the car is equipped like it was originally from the factory. Ask lots of questions and NEVER pay for a car until you've seen it. Even then, as I said before, EVERYTHING can be faked.

I guess that's where I'm lucky, my car has documents of being imported into the country in 1971 so that pretty much makes it a real mcCoy because I can't see the engine and what-not being taken out and replaced by another engine in 1 year from the factory

Also if you have a car from new that you brought are the only ways you know 101% that it is a real mcCoy

cam jam is right about e-bay!!!!!!!!!!! a friend of mine just bought a 67 belvadeer or coronet ragtop, cant remember which it is, off of e-bay. he got pics of the car and everything but didnt go to look at it in person, BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!. after he won, which i dont believe he did win, he went to get the car and low and behold the car was held together by all the mud that made the car look good. whoever did the work took a lot of time or was very good at makin somthing that was junk look good. my friend took the car to a shop to have it looked over after he got it home and they wouldnt even put it on a hoist because they figured it would break in half if they did. so a lesson was taught and learned and hopfully nobody elase will make that mistake.

Man that sucks - I've thought hard about buying a car from eBay and I'm from New Zealand so after hearing that they'll have to have one of those safe SAFE trader things beofre I consider, I'm looking for a project car hopefully a #'s matching mess but a complete car that just needs a good going over for around $2K USD

Thats $4K NZD then import duties, Resto Costs so it won't be cheap - Hopefully one day a Mopar in need of help will pop up on my Shores, ahhhhh that would be nice

NZ yeah it really does suck, i think, if i remember correctly he paid around $2000-$2500 for the car too. that just adds insult to injury

You've got that right! Some bozo had tire weights listed on Ebay the other day. Claimed they were rare, and essential for a correct restoration! Hmmm.......I've got a 5 gallon bucket of those things in the garage I was going to cast into bullets. Maybe I should rethink that idea. Naaah!

Hey Heminut, I use to do that, but I cast them into sinkers for fast moving current for river fishing,lol, to think I wasted all those rare balance weights,lol.

I probably won't melt them down, but it won't be because I think they're worth anything. Back when I started casting bullets 25 years ago it was the cheapest way to go. Nowadays you can buy good cast bullets real reasonable so I've been buying them the last several years. Also, casting is a hot, boring job, as I'm sure you know!

At least some of them admit to having rust. The guy I bought my Cuda from said it didn't have any rust. Of course it didn't! It was all covered with bondo! I had to replace the panel between the back glass and the trunk, the whole bottom of the right fender, and still need to do both quarters and trunk floor. I'm not complaining though, even with the rust the price was right. Especially since I can replace the metal myself. Now, If I would just get in gear and do it!

eBay is very tricky. The best thing you can do with an eBay car is drive out to see it yourself. If you can't do that, send an inspection service for about $300. This might seem somewhat steep for a person to give a car the once over, but compared to spending $5000 for a piece of garbage, its worth it. Unfortunately, the new breed of "enthusiast" doesn't see it that way. They buy at extremely marked up rates, then complain when the rust spot the size of a quarter turns out to be the size of the whole quarter panel. If their going to be ignorant, thats what they'll get. Some folks never learn.

We bought a cheby cavalier for my son for $122 on ebay and still went and looked at it before we bought it. That's the best buy we've ever got on ebay. He's been driving it around, problem free, for 1 1/2 years now.

It's called warranty replacement, it did happen quite often. Most people bought these cars to run
