Heater hose by-pass/shut off ?
« on: July 06, 2014 - 05:11:35 PM »
70 Cuda 383

Car gets too damn hot inside and need to shut off the heater. Whats a good quality by-pass or shut off for the heater hoses ? Almost bought a water valve from Ace. It would look like hell, but it would work.

is the heater door working properly inside the heater box , it should seal off any air coming through the heater core ,  the older dodge trucks in the 70s used a cable operated valve in the heater hose , you could look for one of those .

I could not find one so I bought a brass ball valve at home depot.  My hose is 5/8" and no one seems to make one that size so I went with a 1/2" with the brass barb fittings 5/8" down to 1/2" to adapt.  I flipped the lever facing down to hide it. Not the prettiest thing but it works!

That's what I had thought of and might do. I'd also thought about painting it black and getting some black shrink tubing so that it wouldn't be quite as noticeable.

Grab some larger hose, cut it down the middle and slide it over your valve will hide it even more.

The AC cars had a shutoff that mounted on the right wheel well. It's controlled by a cable from the temperature contol on the dash. I can post a pic if you want.
