milodon 7 qt pan
« on: July 07, 2014 - 10:06:28 PM »
Anyone install a Milodon 7qt pan on a 440 in a E- body? I can't get the pickup to line up in the pan because the pan needs to slide in position and it hits the bellhousing. Never had a problem installing or removing a stock pan.

How much room do you have to maneuver? It should go from the back to front up and in but the pickup must be hitting an edge.

Do you have a pic?

I'll try to take a pic tomorrow. The pan needs to slide in from the rear of the block so that the pickup can go in the sump but the bellhousing is in the way. I'll be calling Milodon tomorrow for suggestions. I'm not going to pull the trans just for an oil pan change so I'll probably put the factory one back on.

Talked to Milodon today and they seemed very helpfull and knowlegable about the pan. Said I would have to raise the motor and lower the k member to sort of roll the pan into position. To much work for me and not convienient if you want to pull the pan to check on things or replace a rear main seal. So will be putting the stock one back on.

Gosh, how often do you check things or change the seal?   Rear seals last years when done right, and bearings last 10's of thousand of miles, when the engine is built right.   I say install it and get it done, unless it will interfere with speed bumps. If your needing more oil capacity, then by all means install it. Just unhook your engine mounts from the K member, either use a jack on the balancer or use an engine puller, lift it up and install the pan. Remember to use all your ppe and safey equipment, the come back here, so you can say been there, done that for the next person that has this simple issue and explain what you had to do :2thumbs:

Never thought to lift it with the balancer. I figured I would use the engine puller but got frustrated and put the original back on. Also the milodon pan is about 1 inch lower than mine and my car is lowered 1 inch form stock so I put the pan up to the block without the sump and noticed the pan is lower than the K member and figured I would have issues.
