Fuel Tank Gasket

Hello all,

Quick question. I was leaking gas and found the rubber seal between the filler neck and tank was split 3/4 around.  I ordered a new one.
What direction does the new seal go in?
Round side up and flat in tank or Flat side out and round side in tank?

I have a feeling mine was broken and backwards.
