Bas**** U-Joint

I just had a new 7290 drive-shaft made and I thought I had a 7290 pinion yoke on my 8 3/4.   It's got me scratching my head... the inner c clip length on the pinion yoke is the same as a 7290 but the diameter of the caps is similar to the size of a 7260 u-joint.  Neither one will fit in it.  I tried swapping 7260 caps and c clips onto one side of the 7290 joint but it wobbles up and down and is too loose.  It's like the diameter of the cap is not quite big enough....

Are caps and c clips interchangeable between the small and large Detroit size 7260/7290 joints?

What the hell size pinion yoke is this and how the hell can I make it fit??? I have 3 different sized pinion yokes so I know for sure it's not a 7290 or 7260. It's some stupid odd ball size and I cant get anything to fit it, this is such a stupid problem to have.

I've resorted to drinking beer until I can figure out what to do! I think my yoke is worn causing play. I tried for 4 hours today to get my pinion nut off but can't do it...

I've sprayed it with pb blaster, heated it with a blow torch, worked it with a 3' breaker bar, tried for an hour with my 150 psi air compressor impact, and even used a floor jack to push my long ratchet to the point where I thought it would break. NOTHING works...

I'm about to put a breaker bar on the nut, rest against the ground, and pull the f****** car backwards with my cummins, these things aren't reverse threaded are they??

I wish I had the knowledge to answer your questions.  But i will hang around and learn when someone actually speaks up to help.

I guess everyone at Carlisle , So I'll give you my experience. The nut is the correct RH thread. They are on very tight, I never was able to get pinion nut  off easy with a breaker bar , I use a large impact wrench with at least 200 ft lbs of torque , seems to come off with ease. Maybe your impact is not large enough or the PSI is not high enough on the air line or set on the regulator side of the wrench.

Can you measure the diameter of the yoke, should be able to determine the size.

Ok I'll take a picture and get better measurements once I get the yoke off... I finally got the nut off of it and the washer behind it. I don't even want to explain how I got it off!!! Stupidest most redneck way ever.  I put a breaker bar on the nut and placed it against the ground, with the driveshaft off I then got my truck and pulled the car a couple of feet until the nut cracked and started turning.

Now that I'm at this point, I can't seem to get the yoke off. Is something holding it on other than that nut I removed?!! I beat the hell out of it with a bfh and tried every puller I could find at the parts store. It won't budge! Nothing so easy has ever given me so much grief!

It must have been on there quite awhile as there is nothing holding it in place except the friction of the spines.

A puller should make quick work of getting the yoke off.

Definitely been on there a while, judging by how hard the nut was to get off I should've known this would be stuck just as bad. I'm giving up for the day and going to think up a better idea

Anyone know of a better puller that will fit on the u joint bolt pattern? Nothing around town has anything that works
