Can't comment on the hotel. But the dinner was fine, although a bit crowded. If our dinner group gets any bigger they are not going to be able to handle us.
I agree with Chryco we need a nice lot the cars are safe in. Remember Grandpa's Growler and the drunk backing into my car in 07? We don't need that happening ever again.

Mary and I like the buffet idea, if possible.

My buddy Jon and I were satisfied with the room.  AC worked, we got rockstar parking right outside the door  :ylsuper: (once lol)  It was a little bit of a drive to the fairgrounds, but I love driving the Challenger so it's fine by me.  Unfortunately I missed out on the parking lot antics Friday due to trying to catch the Snake and Mongoose movie, otherwise that is a definite perk of staying in the club hotel.  I had no problems unloading the car, and we even had a lot for the transport vehicles without getting crowded.  I'd be satisfied staying there again if the price remains reasonable.

Dodge City had great food, I just think they were a little overwhelmed again.  Things definitely went smoother this year as far as food orders went, but there were still a couple screw ups (to be expected with a large party)  The soda refills were timely, but they teased us with the Sam Adams/Traveller samples but didn't come back for orders.  I'm thinking in addition to the room, maybe the kitchen is too small or understaffed for us?  That many orders coming in at once can get overwhelming for the kitchen I imagine.  I'd be interested to know what a conference room and catered buffet/cash bar would go for?  I'd bet if you didn't use the "W" word the price wouldn't be so high.
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

Hi All! My wife and I drove 4 hours from Youngstown to the clubs hotel in New Cumberland. Somehow we did not have reservations at the Quality Inn for us even though we had a confirmation number. We did not have the chance to see the inside of the hotel but from the outside it didn't look that inviting, and there were not any close restaurants, and it was 18 miles from the fairground. We started back towards Carlisle and exited around Pikes Peek (?) it was more of a business area but nicer hotels. There were no vacancies so we continued back West past Carlisle 25 miles to blue mountain exit which was all country and this time we were very low on gas praying the exit was near. We then went back to Carlisle, it was near 3:30 and we went to find a place to eat, stopped at Chiles, right past the fairground in town heading south. Getting out of the car my wife saw a Sleep inn sign hidden behind home depot (a good landmark) we got the last room!!! It was really nice, clean, they had a continental breakfast, nice indoor clean pool, rear parking lot, HUGE to handle trailers and a lot of B-body cars were in the lot. It is only 4-5 minutes from the fairground, can go back and forth during the day, lots of restaurants, no turnpike fees, Wal-Mart and TJ Max down the street, Brusters and DQ, Wendy's, just a much better place all around. Talked with the manager today and a group price $140 from $159 regular and what is left are 13 king rooms and 4 double out of a 200 room hotel. :smokin: :dogpile:

I called the quality inn Friday Morning, got a room for 1 nite.
Arrived at Carlisle 11:45.  That evening I followed Brad to Q Inn at Turnpike ramp Brad was hauling azz  :burnout:  after Ralph Gillis.
mile down the road I caught up to Brad.

The Inn was clean but no hot water for shower... By the time I got the water adjusted ran out of hot water......

Wait - I don't follow.  They only have a few rooms left for next year already?  We've never booked in Carlisle, but I guess we could try it...  I'd prefer to drive a little bit each day, but whatever!

And dammit, 4C TOLD the waitress to tell everyone the 17% was included.  That's upsetting that they didn't...

Hi Jeff, yes those are the last available units left,13 king beds and 4 double rooms. The contact person at Sleep Inn is Brian Watts director of sales #717-249-8893 Its a very nice hotel with a very secure parking lot. What I like about it is that you can drive right into town at night and cruise with a lot of mopars its only 10 minutes from the fair ground.PS the breakfast is great!   :smokin: :grinyes: :dogpile:

Well first off, I thought for the price the hotel was ok. Thought it was strange that there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom tho. Things would fog up quick! The parking area we took over at night worked out well IMHO. Outside of that the only place to eat close by was mickey D's. Good for my morning coffee but that's about it, again IMHO. I'd pay more for something closer w more things close by. It's no secret we "fly in"  so another few bucks for convenience is ok by me.

Now for Dodge City.... ho-hum... Granted this of the opinion of a guy that was in the food business before I was doing what I do now. The food seems to be acceptable to everybody but the service is really lacking. We did have 2 servers this year which was 100% improvement from last year. But for the size of the party 4 would get the job done way better, keep up w drink orders (which is were the $$$ is for Dodge City anyway). Maybe its just the management or lack there of. Which brings me to my second point. Is the kitchen large enough to handle a party that large or is that also a staffing issue? Thirdly in my area 20% added gratuity is the norm for a large party, just sayin'.

Jeff,
For our rooms in Columbus, When we check in, we book our rooms for next year. If you wait 2 days to check out and try to reserve rooms, they are out.

Been doing that for over 10 years now.

First ...... my new Grandson finally arrived!     He was born yesterday afternoon so all my concerns of having to leave Carlisle early were unnecessary.    Mom, Dad, Baby and Gramps are all doing fine :)

Second - many thanks to everyone I met and especially to Dave & Jeff for all the work in organizing this "group."   After several years, it was terrific to put names and faces with Avatars.     The CC.com "Community" is simply the best.

As to feedback on the hotel/dinner etc. - Im fine with the hotel.   Obviously, everyone has different price points, but I agree with Chryco that all I really did was sleep there and wolf down some breakfast.    The extra parking area in the back is a huge asset, as we all have our fears of folks hitting or vandalizing our cars.    I also liked it because it was remote and we could "camp out" as a group without bothering other guests.

I thought the restaurant did an adequate job.   The two servers tried hard (and they did tell us about the 17% gratuity, which I thought very reasonable for a large group like ours).    I did feel guilty, however, that Dave and Jeff sat out in the bar area......   so finding a place with adequate space is definitely a challenge.

There are always trade-offs with trying to accommodate so many folks who may have different expectations.    Overall, this was a great job and I hope to return next year!

Peace,

VT Mopar

So I got an e-mail asking me to rate the Hotel today. Comparing this year to the last time I stayed there was an big improvement. I gave it a good review. I thought it was a good value as you pretty much can't get a room near Carlisle for less than $100 a night now.

Be forewarned if you get the same e-mail....

Don't tell them you stayed in any Hotel the last 12 months. Why? Because you will have to give a review for each Hotel you stayed at.   :grinyes:

Congratulations Doug. Glad that all is well. You might want to suggest to them that next time maybe they could plan it a little better so it doesn't interfere with Carlisle.  :roflsmiley:
