71 cuda correct undercoating?
« on: July 14, 2014 - 11:20:36 AM »
hi all,
a few paint color undercoating questions:

I am ready to paint my 71 340 cuda shaker coupe, painting the bottom of car first.
I know all the usual arguments for and against using a rubberized undercoating , but my question is
if any cars original came with this, was it a factory task, or dealer "installed" only, also if factory did some, all or none 71 340 shaker cars always get this or was it a stand alone extra thing that buyers could add or not add to any car ordered?

also with this in mind, I have figured out what is "blacked out" on the front of the car, (headlight, behind grille area) but if the car was org yellow, should rear wheels wells, be yellow or blacked out, and same with front outer inner fenders, and inner of outer front fenders, blacked out or body color?

thanks

ALL cars had there wheel wells undercoated. Your build sheet would tell you if you had factory undercoating on the floor pans.
On 71 Cuda's ALL rocker panels were blacked out as well as the rad support and tail panel  :2cents:

Front and back.  Plus dont do a great job of applying it.....as the factory workers didn't.  Mine had overspray everywhere.

all right, make sense.
the backs are easy , but the fronts
? should it be the inside of outer fender and outside of inner fender,
or just the outside of inner (since the inside of outer fender is not visible) when viewing complete vehicle.

thanks all

Should be both with the inside of the top of the fender being most important :2cents:
