« on: April 22, 2005 - 03:45:13 AM »
(Or just say what yours is and show me a pic or link if possible)

I need to start shopping for one of these.
So what's all your personal favorites.

Small is preferable (including power unfortunately the current garage)
cover gas
I'm not looking for the last one I'll ever buy, just one that can do the job.
I'll leave it at that. Any help?

Here is a good general purpose one I bought this one 12 years ago and it has never given me a problem .I bought it new for $380 and its the exact same unit that Snap-On was selling for $1200. This is a small mig but it doesn't know it cuz it has welded some stuff it should not have been able to with good penitration. It rated for 26 guage to 1/4 inch but we have welded 5/16 and 3/8 with it a lot of times
Its a Century brand (Solar is the main company so they are one in the same )I highly recommend it and a Miller mig but themiller will cost twice the $$$$

I am using a Millermatic 135 and it does a great job.  You aren't going to be able to weld 1/4 inch metal with it though.  That is true for most of the 115 volt migs though.  Miller welders tend to be on the pricy side though but you do get an awesome product that will last you.

Check out eastwood for the models, i got the mig pak 10 w/gas, bout 500 at the time, they show a few models, you may be able to do better with price, but for unibody you really don't need anything heavier, did repairs on my rails no problem!(now I'm not sure i'd make a rotisary with it, but it's a good starter, Rich.

Mine is made by Schumacher and I bought it at a wholesale club almost 15 years ago.It has held up very well but it now does need some minor repair but the only problem is I can no longer find parts for it.I am looking to replace it with a Hobart or Lincoln but haven`t checked them out yet.I would get a good brand name unit as they are not much more than a cheapo and unless you find the need to weld steel thicker than 1/4" it will be all you will ever need.

I've got a hobart handler 135, and it works great.  They discontinued it and it is now a handler 140, IIRC it does 24 guage to 1/4"
