Quality voltage regulator?
« on: July 18, 2014 - 04:42:59 PM »
Anyone have a source for a good voltage regulator made somewhere other than China? I don`t care too much about looking original just a quality part.

Most of them are made in China or overseas.  Go to NAPA or Car quest, see if they carry US made ones.  But unfortunately, I dont beleive there is much of a dif.  Its a very simple part

Mopar lists 2 , the repro black with original part # & the blue more accurate regulator which controls the voltage to tighter limits .
Roseville or Mancini should have both

Well it urns out it`s not the voltage regulator or the alternator, not sure what`s causing the charging problem now???   :clueless:

Did you add anything electrical? Doesn't take much to use up the amperage the stock alternator puts out?

simple circuit , power to reg & field blue wire , green wire grounding field to reg which controls the ground to limit charging , if the reg & alt are OK then you have a number of issues , connations at both bulkhead plug , ammeter , or bad ammeter gauge , or the alt cannot put out enough power to supply everything so you may need a higher output alt , if you do go higher than 60 amps I recommend a bypass from the alt directly to the bat connection on the start relay on the left inner fender ,

Is your wiring factory original? Or have you modded it?

triple ensure that your regulator has a good and solid ground or the charging system will never work. The location and means that the reg is mounted is a pretty poor ground , and over the years it becomes pretty bad.

I went the extra route of having a small ground strap added

Ask me why......:(
