Usually in 70 they were a special Phillips head, shouldered screw...They changed to hex head in 1971...

Thanks mate. I'll look thru what we have from the tear down. Also look for other pics I took before removal. One vent screen is busted. Could be one was replaced sometime in the past. I have a new vent ready to install so will use correct screws

Really progressing things here with the T/A

I'm contemplating whether to re-chrome, replace or simply polish these up. Only a coupla minor dents thankfully.

Does anyone have a recommendation for the replacement option? Best quality, NOS availability etc

"Transmission cross member bolts are in backwards"

thanks Alan - I appreciate the tips with these things.

the trans crossmember seemed to be painted black. but then the black coating came off with kerosene when Ian was cleaning it up.
either it was thoroughly coated in dried oil n gunk that looked like a coverage of paint, or the paint job was poor. kero shouldn't have removed the paint.

thinking we'll just clear coat it

or should it be black ???

I also appreciate the 2c additions.
Read one earlier that made me review front sway bar and all associated attaching bolt and hardware orientation.
Removing the warning labels one at a time.
Nature will take care of the rest.

Time for Carbys to go on

Should this have a plate / pan across the bottom of the valley cover?
There wasn't one on it

yes it keeps the oil off the intake where the heat crossover goes though the intake , I would suggest just blocking the heat crossover port where the intake meets the head instead
