    Hot tranny action

    I was cleaning my car out and I found a CD case that slid between the driver's seat and the driveshaft hump. The case was melted on the corner from the heat of driving 70mph for 300 miles. Never smelled anything smoldering and the carpet seems fine, but damn! Anyone else ever melt anything down in that area? Or should I be particularly worried?

    How close is the exhaust pipe to the floor pan?  I would suspect that before the trans.

    I would have to agree, the exhaust is right there, but then the title wouldn't have been as catching. But the trans tunnel is right there. I'm just glad my console is not showing signs of heat trouble.

    With the title i thought we had a SpamBot get through.  :scared:  :smilielol:

    I do not have any carpet in mine right now and the tunnel gets pretty warm from the exhuast, hot enough that you won't keep your hand there for long.  So i think the exhuast more than the trans.

    I just insulated my floors as I had extreme heat in my console. It was screwed directly to the tunnel when I got it. I also made brackets to mount the console like it should be allowing more circulation under it.

    My hot tranny is well lubricated, must be the exhaust. I've always been aware that it gets warm down there, but I never had anything melt before.

    If it was that hot, your fluid would be burned, probably not red anymore.
